Weekly Update from Chief Flanagan of The Chickamauga Nation

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone endured the obstacles that the snow and ice brought with them. I know of several that had minor accidents and injuries, and a few that had major complications, please keep them in prayer.

As many of you know from my post earlier this week, I have again requested a meeting with the Department of Corrections. I would like for them to hear the concerns of myself and two other representatives of the Western Region of The Chickamauga Nation as well as one of our Tribe's National representatives. We have consistently attempted to open a dialogue with those departments of the state that are involved with the Franklin County prison project since March of last year. I will continue these attempts as a reminder that we are here and we take cultural preservation very seriously, but also in hoping that we can reach a diplomatic solution with the state. Time will tell.

After reaching out to the DOC I sent a letter to the tribal liaison of the Corp of Engineers to get an update of the investigation on the culvert installation that affected RPW 15 on the property. I expect by the standard that was outlined by the tribal liaison, the Corp will require an archeological study to obtain the needed 404 permit. I also expect that any study would involve our tribe and only our tribe, as we are the one tribe with treaty rights in Arkansas.

2025 was a great year. It brought forth people in our community willing to stand up to bullying and overreach. It brought diverse groups of people together for a common cause. Each participant bringing to bear their own unique set of skills and knowledge against a common threat.
I believe this both surprised and stifled our opponents. Though I am always mindful that this may only be the calm before the storm. Come what may, The Chickamauga Nation will be here to face it.

Thank you.

Justin Flanagan
Western Region Medal Chief
The Chickamauga Nation

To reduce energy costs, consider simple changes like adjusting water heater temperature and using fans effectively.

Lowering the thermostat can also lead to significant savings, as heating and cooling systems consume the most energy.

Installing timed light switches and replacing old appliances with Energy Star models can further help save on utility bills.

While the initial cost may be high, the long-term energy and cost savings make it worthwhile.

By making these changes, you can see a noticeable reduction in your energy usage and expenses.
